A volcano is a vent in a mountain on the Earth's crust that erupts hot molten lava from the inner Earth. Volcanos are located at plate boundaries, especially at subduction zones.
There are three different types of volcanoes in the world; Composite volcano, Shield volcano and a Cinder Cone volcano. Here you will learn about all three volcanoes, and what makes them unique from each other.
How The Volcanos are Formed
Composite volcanoes are formed by viscous lava, which is thick. Viscous lava is the opposite of runny. After this lava flows for a while, the eruption changes and starts shooting out ash and cinder that lands near the bottom of the volcano, which is why these volcanoes have such steep sides. The eruption then changes back to lava, which rotates back to the ash and cinder.
A COMPOSITE VOLCANO
Composition:
Composite volcanoes are composite in three ways. They are composites of multiple eruptions. The eruptions that build up a composite volcano may be separated by thousands of years. The eruptions that form these volcanoes lay down layers of lava, ash and cinders. While this type of volcano might have only one vent, it also might be a composite of several vents.
Size
Composite volcanoes have extremely steep slopes. Most of them are very tall and can reach the height of 8,000 feet. But they can also be unstable which can make them collapse. they can also be very wide.
Facts
The Composite volcano is the most common volcano.
A SHIELD VOLCANO
Composition
A shield volcano is almost entirely made of runny lava. The lava runs down then cools forming the size and shape of the volcano.
Size
A shield volcano is a large volcano with gentle sloping sides. Some of the largest volcanoes in the world are shield volcanoes.
Facts
The shield volcano got it's name "shield" because the image of the outside of the volcano looks like a knights armour.
A CINDER VOLCANO
The cinder cone volcano is the most common volcano.
they are steep sided and quite small and simple.
What it is made of.
Cinder cones are made of melted volcanic rocks that are cooled and turned into small pebble-like pieces.
Size
The cinder cone's width is approximately 250 meters and the height and can vary between 500 to 650 meters.
Facts
The Cinder Cone got it's name from it's looks, because (as seen in it's name) the Cinder Cone volcano looks like a cone!
